Guest Post: 5 Reasons To Love Cyprus

by Audrey on July 2, 2012

With summer nearly upon us, there’s a rush to make the most of the last-minute holiday deals on offer. Whilst many of these focus on traditional ‘Brits abroad’ locations like Spain and the Canary Islands, Cyprus is often overlooked. But as a holiday destination, Cyprus offers everything visitors could want – and more.

Here are just 5 reasons why holidays to Cyprus are so fantastic:

 1.     The weather

Cyprus is blessed with a fantastic climate, and is the warmest country in the Mediterranean part of the EU. Holidays here are virtually guaranteed sun, and the average annual temperature on the coast is 24°C, rising to 33°C in July and August! With warm temperatures for an impressive eight months of the year, there’s never a bad time to visit.

2.     The cost

Cyprus is part of the EU and has the Euro. Due to the ongoing instability in the Eurozone, the pound is currently enjoying an excellent exchange rate against the Euro, meaning that Britons’ money is going further in 2012 than it has in previous years. There are also plenty of all-inclusive holidays on offer, as well as a range of accommodation options for a variety of budgets. . Take a look at some cheap flights from Monarch for regular departures and low prices.

3.     Rest all day, party all night!

Cyprus may only be a small island, but its nightlife can more than hold its own against some of the more traditional party destinations. Resorts like Ayia Napa are incredibly popular with international tourists, with beautiful beaches and watersports to occupy you during the day, as well as plenty of bars and nightclubs so you can party past dawn. There are also lots of quieter resorts, like Paphos, that have high-quality amenities and are ideal for families.

4.     Local culture

Cyprus is more than just a party island. It’s a country of rich cultural heritage and delicious local cuisine. There are many interesting historical sites to explore, including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Paphos and nearby Aphrodite’s Rock – supposedly the birthplace of the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty. There are also crusader castles, Venetian ports, old churches, and picturesque villages inland from the coast.

5.     Location

Cyprus benefits from an excellent location in the eastern Mediterranean, which has had an influence on its history, culture and climate. But if the charms of the island itself aren’t enough to keep you occupied, it’s easy to book a day excursion to Cairo by plane to visit the Pyramids of Giza!

Visit Monarch Airlines for great deals in flights to Cyprus this year as well as a range of other great destinations.
