Today’s photo comes from Callie who blogs over at Wilds of Wherever. She snapped this photo from a menu in Indonesia.
Now I’m thinking this dish’s name might be kind of accurate… I mean, picture a chef preparing your meal on a hot Indonesian day, and then think of just how hot it must get in the kitchen. He’s running around, chopping this, and frying that. He’s wearing a muscle shirt and perspiring heavily. He takes the back of his hand and wipes the beads of sweat that are beginning to form on this brow, and just like that, one of those salty beads drops into the sauce he is preparing for your fried fish… I’m pretty sure we’ve all eaten a ‘sweat’ sauce at some point in our travels. The ‘sawer’ I’m not so sure about…

The “sawer” simply refers to the type of sweat. This type of sauce requires sweat from a lumberjack or a carpenter. No one else’s sweat will do if you’re looking for an authentic flavor.

Ahh, that’s what it means. I think I’d prefer a Canadian lumberjack for an added hint of maple in the sweat.
May I please have the Sawer Sauce ON my Fried Fries – *snicker*

Interesting dishes on the menu. Looks like fried fish is very popular over there.

That’s a lovely you image you painted of the sweaty chef – I feel like now I’ll always involuntarily imagine it whenever I order food in a hot country!

After working in a kitchen, that’s what I envision every time someone prepares my food in a hot country…haha
Hahaha this cracks me up so much! Knowing how the “chefs” are at the food stalls in Indonesia, I’m pretty sure some sweat did indeed go to that fried fish

The sweat sauce made my day!
I don’t want to imagine how they do the sawer one hehe.
Mmmmm, sweat in your food. Doesn’t that just sound appetising. I remember when I was living with my brother years ago – He used to cook these burgers that were soooo awful. They smelt just like sweat. :S
