Best Sights in Malaysia

This article comes at a particularly opportune time, as I happen to be halfway into a month of travel through Malaysia. Today Greg, a fellow traveller who enjoys exploring South East Asia, shares his tips on what he thinks are Malaysia’s best sights!

One of the best destinations for anyone who loves travelling is Malaysia. This country which is located in South East Asia has an equatorial climate that makes it humid and hot all year round. Visitors are usually spoilt for choice as there are numerous tourist attractions. Below are some of the best tourist sights in Malaysia.

The Cameron Highlands

These highlands are inhabited by a number of ethnic groups such as Indians, Malays and Chinese. They are famous for their trails and jungle walks that visitors follow to tour the forest and discover serene spots such as the waterfalls. Visitors may also choose to tour the famous tea plantations found here.

Taman Negara

This is classified among the world’s oldest tropical rain forests and has some of the world’s longest canopy walkways, jungle treks, massive trees and waterfalls. It is also a sanctuary for some of the endangered wild animals like rhinos, Asian elephants, leopards and tigers.

Mount Kinabalu

This Mountain has a summit height of 4,095 metres and is famous for its numerous biological and botanical species biodiversity. It boasts of a large number of mammalian, fern and bird species. It is easy to climb to the main peak of this mountain without the use of mountaineering equipment.

The Petronas Twin Towers

These 88-floor towers are located in Kuala Lumpur and they are the world’s tallest twin buildings. They are extraordinary and magnificent as they are largely constructed using reinforced concrete and have a glass and steel façade resembling Islamic art motifs. There is a sky bridge between them on the 41st and 42nd floors.

Mulu Caves

These are incredible karst formations and caves found in Gunung Mulu National Park. One of the underground caves found here is the Sarawak Chamber which is one of the world’s largest cave chambers. There is also the Deer Cave Chamber which has a large colony of bats that exit in the evening in a spectacular exodus in search of food.

Langkawi

It is an archipelago of 99 islands found in the Andaman Sea. It boasts of craggy mountain peaks, interior jungle full of hills and a fringe of long, white beaches with great resorts, eateries and restaurants.

Pulau Tioman

This is an island located off the eastern coast of the Malaysia peninsular and it is an ideal destination for anyone seeking the taste of paradise. The Time Magazine once listed it among the most beautiful islands in the world. Apart from its beauty, it is a great place for scuba diving as it is surrounded by many white coral reefs.

Sunway Lagoon

This lagoon is ideal for family outings. It has 6 play areas that include a water park with a number of water games. There are also adventure games such as ATV offroad games, paintball, flying fox and a haunted house among others. This lagoon also has a wildlife park.

Eye on Malaysia

This is the world’s largest portable ‘observation wheel’. This 60 metres Ferris wheel ride enables visitors to have a magnificent view of Kuala Lumpur city and more than 20 kilometres of its surroundings including Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower and Istana Budaya.
